Online Science Outreach

Blog about bee ecology

While in the field during the beginning of my graduate program, I started blogging about topics related to bee ecology as I learned more about them. It started as practice writing and a way to communicate what I was doing to my family, and ended up becoming popular with readers near and far, and featured on Utah State University's 'Science Unwrapped Blog Station.'

Climate Change Book Group

I started and run a Climate Change Book Group that brings people together from all over the world to read novels in the genre "CliFi": Climate Fiction. We select the novels as a group, read 1-3 per semester, then discuss the portrayal of climate issues in fiction via video chat. We currently have about 40 members. Join us!

American Society of Naturalists Graduate Student Council: Science Advocacy Committee

The American Society of Naturalists Graduate Student Council consists of seven selected members, who each serve on the council for three years. We aim to positively represent science to the public, and to support fellow graduate students as they navigate the difficult paths through higher education in STEM by writing how-to blog posts and organizing events for the graduate community.

SSE/ASN Science Policy Committee

As part of my role on the Advocacy Committee for the ASN GSC (above), I participate as the only graduate student member on the Society for the Study of Evolution Policy Committee led by Dr. Sally Otto.
